The festival welcomes Riccardo Chailly, an eminent figure, for his third appearance at the Quincena. Having previously performed in 1997 and 2003 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Chailly returns to San Sebastian with his current ensemble, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala of Milan. Originally established as the pit orchestra for the prestigious La Scala opera house, it was Claudio Abbado who, in 1982, transitioned it to symphonic pursuits. Chailly's career commenced as an assistant to Claudio Abbado at La Scala in Milan. He was appointed music director of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1980 and of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1988. From 2005 to 2016, he served as the head of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. Since 2015, he has held the position of music director of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala in Milan. The concert program features Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and suites No. 1 and No. 2 from Ravel's Daphnis and Chloé.
