In its second concert, the Philharmonique du Luxembourg will join forces with the Easo Mixed Voice Choir and Moscow bass Alexander Vinogradov (frequently found at the Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro Bolshoi, Ópera Nacional de París, Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden) to present one of Shostakovich's most extraordinary compositions: The Execution of Stepan Razin. This complex and compelling work, making its debut at the Quincena, narrates the fascinating tale of the 17th-century Cossack rebel Stepan Razin's defiance against Tsar Alexei. The program's second half will feature Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, a vivid portrayal of an artist's tumultuous journey.
